MEMORY OF THE PLACE

For three years, the inspiration for my drawings, paintings, collages, and short videos have been documents and anecdotes related to my own family. Many of those stories have Lviv as their setting. It is here, at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, that the male members of my family attended courses at the university and obtained academic degrees, while the women “visited” – delightfully enjoying their leisure time, filled with cultural and social activities. In my works, I randomly combine the old with the modern times, I look for continuity, or similarities, and I freely interpret the facts. At the Museum of Ideas, I only show portrait works, because I am striving for a kind of confrontation between the characters who knew Lviv, and the place, which retained the memory of them. I hope that this meeting, with the city as a common denominator, will guide my intuition, because now I also have a chance to experience it. I included an imaginary prelude in the video projection.
